Da Nang authorities have approved a 181,000 USD project to improve the health care of mothers and newborn babies, especially those living in remote and isolated areas.

The project, funded by the US-based Atlantic Philanthropy through the recommendation of the US organisation Save the Children, will be carried out by the Da Nang Health Department's Health Care Personnel Training Centre.

Called Health care of Mothers and Newborn Babies from House to Hospital, the programme will outline measures to improve care.

Pregnant mothers will be provided with information on home health care for their babies, family planning, reproductive measures and breastfeeding.

The project will also help upgrade health care infrastructure and provide training to staff at clinics and health centres at commune and district levels.

The city Health Department said with the scheme, the capacity of health clinics would be greatly improved, and as a result, would reduce the overload at hospitals in the city's inner districts.
