Bird flu fades in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta

An additional three bird flu-infected localities have been removed from the black list after recording no new outbreaks in the last 21 days, heard a conference in Hanoi Tuesday.

Bui Quang Anh, head of the Animal Health Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said provinces including Soc Trang, Hau Giang and Kien Giang have gone off the catalog following Tra Vinh.

 

Last week the delta saw no new outbreaks thanks to drastic measures to bring the epidemic under check.

 

To date, bird flu is still present in 13 communes of 9 districts in provinces including Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Vinh Long and Can Tho City.

 

Anh said the department would send more task forces to the region to stamp out bird flu before the Lunar New Year festival in mid-February.

 

The National Committee o­n Bird Flu Control has instructed local authorities to strengthen surveillance and preventive measures against the disease.
