On the afternoon of August 26, at the Vietnam Women’s Museum, VWU Vice President Bui Thi Hoa had a cordial meeting with the Judge of the United States Court of Appeals, Mrs. Allyson Kay Duncan, to discuss gender mainstreaming in legislation.

At the meeting, Vice President Bui Thi Hoa introduced the role, functionsand activities of the VWU, particularly in the field of advising, proposing, and participating in the development of laws and policies on gender equality and social counter arguments to such laws, and monitoring enforcement. She also shared the VWU’s other supports for women such as capacity building, vocational training and helping women access to micro credits, supporting female entrepreneurs.

Mrs. Allyson Kay Duncan highly appreciated the role of the VWU. In her opinion, gender mainstreaming in legislation is considered the strategic measure to achieve the goals of gender equality, elimination of gender discrimination, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of women in labor market, wage regime, health care and maternity, etc. Also, ensuring gender equality will help the country maximize their labor force, thus promoting its economic development.
