Born in 1963 in Hanoi, nearly all the childhood of Lan Huong was close to the arts because she was grew up in a residential quarter of artists.

Since her childhood, following film production teams, she was keen on roles and wished that one day, she would join the scenes. The eyes of talented director Hai Ninh sensed the ability of the girl and decided to give the main role Ngoc Ha in the film ‘Hanoi girl’ when she was only ten years old. This marked her first success on the road of arts and the name ‘Hanoi girl’ has become her artist name until now.

Following the first course for drama artists of Tuoi Tre theatre, she had a chance to turn her dream into reality. This was a period of great effort and creativity for her. It was lucky for her to work for the theatre.

For the past 27 years as an artist of the theatre, she has taken 50 different roles, old and young, negative and positive characters, while always trying to make the roles alive and attractive.

She is remembered for various roles, including Huong Huong in the ‘My life’, an imperial concubine in the Vu Nhu To by late writer Nguyen Huy Tuong. Behind the success, few people know how hard she found it when she practised dancing and singing.

She is not satisfied with her contributions to stage drama and cinematography, Lan Huong also wants to try with other types of stage. With the help of her theatre’s leadership and colleagues, a body drama team led by Lan Huong has seen its first light. This type of drama requires general factors, including dancing, pantomime, and puppetry performing. Reaching 40, Lan Huong is still very keen on practising and is very prominent in her solo role in ‘Dream for Happiness’ and a series of items with other artists such as Nhu Lai and Ngoc Van, which was recently given the grand prize for performance in Shandong province, China.

Though she is busy, she has tried to arrange her time in such a way as to be able to follow a course for stage directors organised by the stage and cinematography college. She has also helped and passed experience on to young artists. Her efforts have been returned with various medals and awards, especially the love from audiences. In 1997, she was recognised to be an artist of merit and presented the prize ‘best actress’  at the audience-based contest for best TV films for her role Nguyet Ha in the film ‘Those people living around me’. Recently, she was elected as a role model person of the culture and information sector. She said: ‘How ever difficult it is with the passion and responsibility of an artist, my colleagues and I are still full of enthusiasm on the creative road of arts, trying to make a contribution to building a stage advanced and imbued with national identity in Vietnam.
