Mong woman preserves and promotes ethnic brocade weaving
NDO – Learning the art of brocade weaving since the age of 13 from her mother, 1962-born artisan Vang Thi Mai has kept in mind that practicing and preserving the traditional craft is the responsibility of every Mong women. Taking on the responsibility, she established the Brocade Weaving Cooperative of Hop Tien village, Ha Giang province in 1999 with the hope of popularising one of Mong people’s cultural identities to domestic and foreign visitors. -
Finding strategic markets for Vietnam’s handicrafts
On 23rd February 2017, the Vietnam Women’s Union (the VWU) and Crib to Crib Colombia (CtC) signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the aim to develop clean and sustainable production and strategic markets for Vietnam’s handicrafts. -

Vietnam elected member of UN Human Rights Council
On November 12th 2013, Vietnam was elected with the highest vote (184/192) to become one of 14 new members of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the first time. The UNHRC is the principal intergovernmental body of the United Nations responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights around the world. The council has subsidiary operational mechanisms, most notably the UNHRC Universal Periodic Review (UPR), wherein all member nations are required to submit periodic reports to review the human rights performance in their countries.

Conference on Overseas Vietnamese Women
Implementing the Resolution No. 36/NQ-TW of the Politburo on the affairs of overseas Vietnamese and Resolution No.11/NQ-TW of the Politburo on women's work in the period of stepped-up national industrialization and modernization, and with the aim of meeting the needs of exchanging, sharing and connecting of Vietnamese women living and working abroad, from November 19th-22nd 2013, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs co-organized a conference on overseas Vietnamese women. This was the first major event dedicated to this target group, which marked the accomplishment of a goal VWU has been concerned with for a long time. -
